đˇÂ Over Communicate
You cannot communicate enough during periods of uncertainty.
Over-communicating helps to combat uncertainty. It quiets the voices in everyoneâs heads and creates a culture of togetherness.
If you fail to communicate, itâs a slippery slope:
- Imaginations can run wild.
- Rumors can start.
- Your employees can become disillusioned.Â
Without clear and constant communication, your staff can lose their way.
Over-communicating is like a light in the storm. It provides guidance and direction that empowers the team to work together.
In a weekly huddle, provide transparent updates on the situation.
You donât have to overshare confidential or financial information, but donât candy-coat it either. Your team can handle the truth and reality of the situation.
Speak candidly. Speak directly. Speak frequently. The more you include your team, the more everyone can work together to navigate the storm.

đĽÂ Celebrate Small Wins
Celebrate the wins, no matter how small.
I have really noticed the toll the Uncertainty Tax has taken on people, at all levels of business. Itâs hard to avoid whatâs happening, and thatâs increasing stress and anxiety.
Even if your business is thriving, a cloud can be forming over your employees. Donât let whatâs happening externally disrupt your business.
Break the negative cycle by putting a spotlight on all the small wins.
Weekly team huddles are a fabulous time and place to celebrate the small wins. Take a few minutes to give acknowledgments and shoutouts.
You can even gamify it with a weekly trophy or prize. For instance, one of our clients has the âGolden Eagle Award.â Itâs a huge brass eagle statue that is awarded to a different person each week.
Sometimes itâs awarded for an outstanding achievement, like winning a big sale. Other times itâs awarded for an act of kindness or exemplifying the companyâs core values.
These small celebrations drive up morale and build your culture from within.
When you have a bigger win, go all out. Throw a party. Make it a celebration. Everyone needs to see the light in the storm and know their hard work is valued.
The more you communicate and celebrate, the stronger your team will be.
đ The People Factor
Andrew Carnegie said, âTake away my people, but leave my factories, and soon grass will grow on the factory floors. Take away my factories, but leave my people, and soon we will have a new and better factory.â
Talent is the throttle for your business. When you work with passionate, engaged people who have the right talent, itâs like stepping on the gas. Itâs surprising how far and fast you can go.
When you have the wrong people on your team, itâs like driving on bald tires. You just canât gain traction. There is always something holding you back, no matter how hard you step on the gas.
Itâs easy to give lip service to the phrase, âPeople are our most important asset.â Donât say it. Make it 100% true!
You cannot innovate and challenge the status quo with a disengaged team. You need everyone in your organization focused and committed on making your company as good as it possibly can be.
Branding isnât just about marketing. Itâs about creating an organization that is purposefully built to innovate and serve its clients.
